Make it Your Business

The Make It Your Business Toolkit is an outgrowth of the Strong and Healthy Oklahoma Initiative. The curriculum focuses on policies and practices businesses can implement in the workplace that encourage employees to eat better, move more, and be tobacco-free. One way the training can be accessed is through the Oklahoma Career Technology Centers across the state. Health and Safety Coordinators from state Career Tech sites and County Health Educators from local county health departments have been trained to help businesses learn how to use the toolkit. Once the business has gone through the training, this easy to implement business tool can be used with small, medium, large or corporate businesses. For additional information on Career Tech trainings please contact Jim Robyler, Safety and Health Administrator at jrobl@careertech.org and for County Health Educator assistance in trainings please contact Kathy Payne, Health Promotion Director, Oklahoma State Department of Health, kpayne@health.ok.gov.

Another way the training is being offered is through a preparation course called Make It Your Business E-Training, provided by Moore Norman Technology Center. The make It Your Business E-Training is an online training option for businesses interested in improving their worksite wellness. This instructor-guided online training is designed to help businesses develop a wellness team, conduct an employee needs assessment, and work with that team to develop effective wellness policies. Various presentations and interactive activities will guide participants through the three major aspects of the Strong and Healthy Oklahoma Initiative: Eat Better, Move More and Be Tobacco Free. In addition teams will receive specific feedback on policies they develop for their workplaces.

Up to 6 wellness team members from one business can access the training for one price. Each individual team member will have a user name and password so team members can be from different physical locations. For more information, please contact Christy Burcham cburcham@mntechnology.com or Mike Charboneau at mcharboneau@mntechnology.com.

Once training is completed and policies and practices are successfully implemented, businesses will be able to apply to become an Oklahoma Certified Healthy Business.
