Gaining Corporate Support

Many argue this is the most important step in starting a worksite wellness program.  Corporate or management support is essential to a successful wellness program.  Support of the program by senior management can improve participation rates, drive momentum, and help solidify the worksite wellness program in the culture of the organization.  There are different levels of corporate support.  Some senior level management may feel the program is beneficial but do not actively participate or encourage staff.  Some may encourage staff to participate, but not participate themselves.  The most successful worksite wellness programs typically have senior level management that actively participate in the wellness program and also encourage employee participation.  But how can you achieve this level of support?  Information on gaining corporate support is available in the Create a Worksite Wellness Program section of this website.  For those of you with worksite wellness programs, how did you gain corporate support for the wellness program?  What successes and challenges did you face?  Did the drive for the wellness program come from senior management or from the employees?  Did this make a difference in gaining momentum for the program?
